The number of Queenslanders who avoided prosecution for drug possession under the Police Drug Diversion Program more than tripled after the former Labor government widened the scope. By comparison, 2,307 people were diverted in the same period (May 3 to November 3) the previous year. Police and health groups had welcomed the changes, saying it allowed officers to focus on serious crime while promoting positive health practices in the community. However, the Liberal National Party campaigned on the need for tougher crime policies , and the Crisafulli government intends to wind back the program. “The Crisafulli government does not support Labor’s watering down of drug laws,” Police Minister Dan Purdie said. “Consuming, producing, trafficking and possessing illicit drugs causes serious harm to society, and our frontline police work tirelessly to disrupt these types of activities. “Condoning illicit drug use of any kind will not be tolerated, which is why the Crisafulli government is reviewing legislation to overhaul Labor’s soft-on-drug approach.” The move will likely see more people held in custody awaiting court or jailed for drug possession, at a time when the state’s prison system is already overcrowded. On Friday, Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie confirmed the Caboolture watchhouse would continue to hold only young offenders – a workaround introduced under Labor – due to a delay in construction of a new youth detention centre. “We’ve extended that now till the end of 2025 to relieve some of the capacity issues that we have in our youth detention facilities,” Bleijie said, while promoting the LNP’s flagship ‘adult crime, adult time’ policy. Even though Taylor Swift has no impact on Kansas City Chiefs games, there are a few rules she has to follow due to her relationship with Travis Kelce. Chariah Gordon, the fiancée of Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman, recently spoke to PEOPLE about certain rules the team has in place during the season. There are three in particular that apply to Kelce and Swift. The first rule regards the Super Bowl champions' curfew. Players on the Chiefs have an 11 p.m. curfew the night before games. If Kelce stays out past curfew, he'd be subject to discipline. The NFL's collective bargaining agreement states the following: "Any material curfew violation the night prior to the Club’s game may be considered conduct detrimental to the Club upon player’s first offense." The second rule that affects Swift is that significant others must stay in separate hotel rooms. Gordon told PEOPLE, "Ain't no staying in no same room." The Chiefs are apparently very strict about this rule. The third and final rule that Swift must follow is pretty interesting. Wives and girlfriends of Chiefs players cannot board the team's plane after away games. Jayla Thornton-Cook, the wife of Chiefs safety Bryan Cook, opened up about this rule. "They leave by themselves," she said. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is likely to go to Sriperumbudur on Friday, the anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination and return in time for the ceremony. Sonia will be the chairperson of the CPP. Its constitution was amended at Wednesday’s meeting making provisions for a chairperson to be elected by all MPs. The chairperson was given the power to nominate the leaders of the CPP, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. Following the amendment, Sonia was unanimously elected chairperson and a resolution was passed authorising her to name the leaders of the two Houses and other office-bearers. Sonia then made a statement committing herself to the party and asking her party men to give their unstinting support to Manmohan Singh. “I am not going anywhere. I am still very much in politics. I will continue as Congress president and chairperson, CPP, as long as you want me to,” she said. After his meeting with Kalam, Manmohan Singh spoke about the direction in which his government would take economic reforms. “ We have always said that economic reforms with a human face will continue,” he said. “ We can take forward the process of social and economic development to realise the vision of Rajiv Gandhi.” Manmohan Singh also said that the mandate of the people was for Sonia Gandhi to become the Prime Minister. “However, she has decided that in the best interests of the country that burden should be passed on to me,” he added.
